There are humanitarian organizations out there that focus on helping people get a leg-up on their second chances. So what exactly do you cover when giving someone a second chance? Really, it can vary from fiscal responsibility to home security and there are plenty of sites out there like the Salvation Army’s homepage or even homesecurity101.com/ that can offer more info. The important thing to aim for isn’t so much drilling all this information into a person’s head, it’s giving them the skills they need in order to make the most of these second chances.

You want to focus primarily on skills necessary to avoid any kind of harmful or potential relapse. Some people who have been scraping and surviving on the streets for so long have become so accustomed to the way of life that it’s very easy for some of them to fall back in. Some of it is compulsory and some of it is personal decisions and part of the education must, in many ways, change and re-educate the brain to avoid these disastrous decisions. Second chances are rare and third ones are all but unheard of which is why you need to make sure you start these things on the right foot.

Amnesty International is a global organization of people who have dedicated themselves to defending human rights and protecting people all over the world from injustice. From promoting women’s education in Afghanistan to exposing labor camps in China to protecting child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Amnesty International has boots on the ground everywhere. Did you know that they also work to fight injustice right here in the United States? It’s true.

Amnesty International has been working for decades to expose injustice and increase awareness in America. In a victory for human rights, Amnesty International has recently seen the abolition of the death penalty in Connecticut, leaving only three states that practice this punishment. And with increased awareness, even these states are putting fewer people on death row. Amnesty International is also working to raise awareness of racial profiling in the United States, and to reduce race-based discrimination. Perhaps most importantly, Amnesty International is campaigning to defend the human rights of immigrants. Although the United States has the right to regulate the entry and stay of immigrants into the country, Amnesty International is working to make sure our government does so while respecting the basic human rights of these people, legal or illegal.

Amnesty International is working right next door to protect our neighbors and our friends, and that is a cause worth fighting for.

The American Red Cross, founded in May 21, 1881 by Clara Barton, has worked to help those who are in need when disaster has struck. Today, it is an intricate network of employees, volunteers, and donators who choose to reach out to the far corners of the earth to offer help wherever it is needed. The American Red Cross began with the military as Clara Barton hired nurses to serve the soldiers in the U.S. Army. Today, their service extends beyond helping the military.

Since its founding, the American Red Cross has always incorporated life-saving skills into the lives of others through first aid, CPR, blood donation, and disaster relief. With a deep understanding of how lives can drastically change when a disaster, natural or otherwise, strikes, the American Red Cross is there to offer comfort and relief wherever possible by bringing in clean water and supplies as well as offer solutions to build up the community.

For more than a century, they have provided employees and volunteers alike with skills that are consistent with modern-day knowledge to prepare individuals to help others and themselves. There can never be enough helping hands, and you can be a part of it!
